There are numerous ways in which you can add and modify items inside Cashcow! POS, but in this article we will focus on just one method: adding items manually through Stock Control.

Before we get started, we'll have to understand how items are organized; every item must belong to a sub-category and every sub-category must belong to a category. For example, we could have a category called Beverages that contains a sub-category called Soft Drinks, and this Soft Drinks sub-category will contain an item called Cola Can.

Before we can add the Cola Can item, we must have a category and sub-category for it to go in.

To get started, enter the Setup Page by pressing the corresponding button on your Function Pad:
Followed by clicking on Stock Control:

Inside Stock Control is where most of the inventory related operations reside.

Remember that before we can add our item into Cashcow, we must have a category and sub-category for it. Let's set this up now by clicking on the Categories button:

By default, Cashcow! POS will come pre-installed with a General category, that contains a Misc sub-category. First we will want to add a category called Beverages. To do this, type in Beverages as the category name and then press the Add New Category button, as below:

Now we are able to add in a sub-category. First, we must select which category the sub-category will go under. In this case, Beverages, so select the Beverages category by clicking on it.
Next, type in a name for the new sub-category, and press the Add New Sub-Category button:

Now we're ready to create our first item, so Exit the Categories page and press the highlighted button:

The compulsory fields for adding an item are:

• Description (or item name)
• Category & sub-category
• Price

Once we have the above details filled out, we can press the Save & Exit button to save the item and return to the Stock Control main page. For now, leave the other fields default.

The Cola Can item has now been added!
